Ladies Auxiliary of St. Demetrios
Athena Canavos, President
Come and join the Ladies Auxiliaries of St. Demetrios by participating and helping at the Williamsburg Farmers' Market. Every Saturday morning, the Greek Bakery stand sells baklava, spanakopita and other sweets and savories in Merchants Square. We need parishioners and friends to volunteer at the stand. All you have to do is show up for a few hours Saturdays between 8:00 AM and noon in front of the Kimball Theatre (right next to Thomas Jefferson). Currently, all the proceeds from the sales of the Greek pastries and specialty savory items are donated directly to St. Demetrios Parish, to assist with expenses, as well as to help the poor and orthodox needy of our Parish.
The St. Demetrios Women's Auxiliaries is the threshold to the Metropolis Philoptochos Sisterhood, under the auspices of the National Philoptochos Sisterhood, an organization that has not yet established a chapter in our Christian Community. The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos is a philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and its mission consists of aiding the poor, promote charitable, benevolent and philanthropic activities, encourage the participation of activities of the Greek Orthodox community and preserve and perpetuate the Orthodox Christian Faith and concepts.
